I have a membership directory that I've placed an Edit on Page link and it works fine, but when the edit form comes up the live view is still there. Is there a way to hide this when the edit form appears?

What do you mean when you say "the live view is still there"?
With edit in place, the page upon which the link appears doesn't change. The edit in place div simply expands to show the field or fields you want to edit. Edit in place uses Ajax to update the database directly. Edit in place does not fire form actions unless through custom code.
