sign-up confirmation email going to users already subscribed

I'm running an event which involves swapping subscribed users between lists.
This is triggering a signup-confirmation email despite them already being subscribed users to our general site.
Is there a way of only having this turned on for 1 email list?   Or only sending it to users who are not currently already subscribed?

Without understanding your workflow and how you're swapping users between lists, it's not possible to advise you.

The question really is - can I have the signup confirmation email working only on 1 of our lists. The rest is really irrelevant (but using the API to move people between a one life lost and game over list according to their activity within our event)

Yes. Deactivate or delete the confirmation action on the other forms.
