How to Over write and entry ?

is that possible to over write an entry already entered. My Project as follows
  1. Its an Organization project having authorities all over the district of the state .
  2. Each district have President , Secretary and Treasurer. 
  3. All members register online with an automated membership id
  4. The admin only enter the membership id to full the member profile and display into membership directory 
  5. The Admin Enter The Membership id and choose District then choose Designation of the member , 
  6. while public searching specific district designations he will choose district and choose the designation, then the designated profile appear.. my doubt as follows
  7. admin need to update a designated profile, he will enter the new membership id and choose district and designation. then the current designation will replace with new one !
Is it possible ?

Editing an entry overwrites its values. Just edit it.

sorry .. im talking about update through front end .. ie:

i will add a "president" of the district by entering his "membership id" to autofill the profile then "chose district" , then "president" designation. it will reflect the members list president search...

if the president of the district when change, i will proceed the same to update the current president ! i need to replace the current president profile with new one

I am not following your process, but it doesn't matter if you're editing on the front end or back end. The answer is the same. Edit the entry to overwrite it.
